This person can see an object and that's an irrefutable truth. What the person judges on what the figure is can be doubted. Other people may see cotton candy while he is sees a cloud. In Descartes view, people see many things because of the way authority or tradition/culture teach people. Authority is doubted because Descartes believes that people should think freely. The people should think freely because the mind is not limited by time and space. Perception is an irrefutable truth and an example is that a person tastes cilantro but what can be doubted is how cilantro tastes to a person. |
